The opportunity to sponsor a plank to help fund the restoration of Queen’s Pier in Ramsey has proven one hundreds could not resist.
The Queen’s Pier Resoration Trust is in the process of restoring Ramsey’s pier and make it suitable to once again open to the public.
Phase one of the restoration is complete, and the trust is now in a position to start phase two.
To help restore the pier, patrons can sponsor a plank and ’make your mark on history’.
Planks are £75 each and stanchions are £150. The planks are a standard length of 2.3 metres and can be situated anywhere on bays 4 to 8 as space becomes available.
Each plank (except for the centre plank) will be accompanied by a plaque.
On the trust’s website, it states that if you purchase a North Plank and a South Plank together at the same time (total £150) , then the associated centre plank will be included as a bonus free item.
Most of the planks in this sale had been sold at the time the Examiner went to print, with several left to be purchased.
The huge uptake of interest has meant more than £13,000 has been raised in the last week to help fund the project going forward.
Project manager Stuart McKenzie said of the sales: ’The planks were released starting on Wednesday (September 29) and I must say we’ve had about 180 purchases so far, and we’re running out of planks at the moment.’
For those who still want a plank, never fear - Mr McKenzie said: ’We are going to discuss at the next board meeting whether we can release the next three bays of phase two, and then there will be plenty.’
Sponsorship for the planks can be purchased at www.qprt.im
