The former Howstrake holiday camp site has been put on the market.
Howstrake was home for the first holiday camp in the British Isles but has lain vacant since the last visitors left in 1973.
The 25-acre site, which had planning approval for a 20,000 sq ft home, is on the market with estate agent Garforth Gray. Price is on application.
Garforth Gray say it is a ’truly unique opportunity’ and describe the site as ’arguably, one of the island’s premium building plots’ with a ’stunning coastal location and amazing sea and rural views’.
There is private access from the site to the cove at Groudle beach.
Developer Allprop Ltd, of Ballasalla, was granted approval in principle to build a home with ancillary staff and office accommodation in 2015 (15/00636A)
But last month Allprop this year sought a two year extension to the planning consent (17/00910/B), after asbestos was discovered.
Director Nick Skelton said considerable interest has been shown in the site’s development, from interests in the Isle of Man, the UK and overseas. One firm offer was received but was placed on hold due to the discovery of asbestos on site.
