The Department for Enterprise has reminded ’homestay’ operators to check registration details to ensure they are in date for both the TT and Festival of Motorcycling.
Homestay is a scheme that lets local people to accommodate visitors in their homes without having to pay tax on the income earned.
Registration ensures access to the department’s public liability insurance.
If a visitor is injured while staying in the resident’s property and they decide that the homeowner was somehow negligent, the department’s insurers will respond and deal with the claim.
The department also wishes to remind all island homeowners that it is illegal to host paying visitors without being registered by MiQuando, which runs the scheme.
Contact MiQuando on 640393 or [email protected].
Hosts can also check registration details using the ’property Checker’ tool online at www.iomhomestay.com.
