Hooded Ram has submitted its plans for a TT marquee on Douglas promenade.
The planning application (18/00283/B) for a TT ’event space’ on the Bottleneck car park includes a temporary marquee, together with a stage, toilet facilities, back of house services and perimeter fencing.
An open-sided tent measuring 420 sq m is proposed as the main venue, with a bar inside. There will be a large stage with a canopy and spectator area to the side nearer to the Sea Terminal.
Toilet facilities, storage and the security office would be housed in converted shipping containers.
The temporary structures will be in use from May 26 to June 8, with the opening times from midday to midnight, if planning consent is given.
In its application, the Hooded Ram said staff numbers would be allocated on a daily basis but it would expect to have 22 on security or as stewards and 45 at the bar and back of house.
The brewery announced on its Facebook page in November that it had been awarded the contract by Douglas Borough Council to operate the new TT tent on the Bottleneck site for the next five years, taking over from Bushy’s.
Its post read: ’So, now we can let you into a little secret we’ve been keeping all to ourselves!
’Welcome to the future and say hello to 14 days - five stunt shows and three epic headline events, all at the Hooded Ram Box Park.’
The Douglas-based brewery promised to ’create a festival feel’ by ’re-imagining’ the leisure and entertainment programme.
Live music, such as a ’Battle of the Bands’ competition, support for local charities and local produce in artisan and street food outlets would be included to modernise the image of the TT festival and, said Hooded Ram, ’ensure that the event is executed as effectively as possible.’
An artist’s impression of what the attraction would look like for this year’s TT races was also provided, apparently showing a two-storey marquee.
The Hooded Ram declined to give a comment on its proposals until next week.
Bushy’s boss Martin Brunnschweiler said: ’I’m intrigued, as a large part of us losing the Bottleneck was because the proposals from the Hooded Ram’s tent was going to be "epically" different to what the Douglas Promenade has ever seen before. From what I’ve heard about the proposal, it’s almost a carbon copy. I’m just amazed!’
In September, Bushys announced that it would be relocating to the Villa Marina Gardens in Douglas for this year’s TT.
Mr Brunnschweiler added: ’We’re very optimistic and excited for our plans at the Villa Marina. We are concentrating on what we’re doing, rather than looking elsewhere.’
There will be a licensing court meeting next week, after which the Bushy’s boss says he will announce more details about the beer tent.
