An initiative which brings festive joy to families across the Isle of Man is being supported by Dandara again.

The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal collects donations of food, toys and gifts each winter which it then distributes to local families and individuals in need over the festive period.

The support over the years totals nearly £12,000.

The 2019 Christmas appeal provided toys for 456 children and food parcels or vouchers for 354 families and individuals.

It also funded home-cooked meals for 76 people at the charity’s annual Boxing Day community meal.

Dandara’s donation will be used to buy vouchers for toy parcels and wrapping kits, along with food and other items for the Boxing Day gathering.

Captain Rachael Nieuwoudt from the Salvation Army said: ’We are thankful to have the generous support of Dandara for our 2020 Christmas appeal, especially when you consider what a challenging year this has been for businesses.

’It really is touching to have its backing for the sixth year running.

’It has been a difficult few months for everyone and we understand that you might not be able to give as much as you might wish this year, but every donation great or small is appreciated.

’Once again, we will be doing everything we can to provide everyone who needs a little extra support this Christmas with some festive joy and a reason to celebrate.’

Jo Orton, Dandara marketing director, added: ’It is a pleasure to support The Salvation Army’s charitable appeal again this Christmas. During these extraordinary times, team endeavours such as this are more important than ever - ensuring everyone has an opportunity to enjoy the festive period. We hope our donation helps to brings comfort and joy to those who need it this Christmas.’

The Salvation Army is also appealing to the Manx public and other local businesses for donations of toys, gifts and food ahead of this year’s Christmas appeal.
