The quest to buy a new hyperbaric chamber for the island is well under way.

The charity behind it is finalising the specifications before a hyperbaric chamber is ordered from the manufacturers.

In April staff and supporters of the hyperbaric chamber in Peel Road, Douglas, formed a new charity called Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and took over the operational functions from the original charity called The Kevin Gray Memorial Charity.

It has decommissioned the current chambers and altered the internal layout of our premises to facilitate their removal.

But the charity needs more money.

Manager John Houghton said: ’We have now raised an amazing £102,000 from crowd funding but in order to achieve our goal we need lots more.’

Fundraiser Marcie Dean said: ’The public has always supported the chamber because they realise the importance of hyperbaric oxygen therapy has on patients who need to use the facility. I hope to hear from anyone who wishes to support them and help in any way I can.’

She can be contacted via email on [email protected] or telephone 467668.

The hyperbaric chamber helps divers with the bends and is also used for many other health conditions.
