There is ice on the Mountain Road this morning.

Police have asked motorists to take care and say the Verandah is the worst spot.

Department of Infrastructure gritters are on the scene.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice.

The forecast:

A dry and bright day today with sunny spells, although cloud cover will start to increase towards dusk. Moderate southeast winds, with the maximum temperature 8 Celsius. Turning cloudy but dry overnight.

New Year’s Day will stay dry but fairly cloudy as the southerly winds gradually freshen.

Thursday will start cloudy with rain developing later in the morning, before clearing later on. Strong south-westerly winds veering northwest as the rain clears.
