The Met Office warning said: ’Isolated showers are likely to become more frequent for a time tonight, falling as sleet or wet snow over higher ground (above around 500FT) with some slight accumulations possible, and sleet or hail at lower levels giving temporary and slushy accumulations.
’Road surface temperatures are also expected to fall close to or slightly below freezing tonight, giving a further risk of ice forming on untreated surfaces which become damp or wet from any showers.
’Mainly above 500FT, but also in sheltered low-lying spots in central and eastern parts of the island.’
