Ramsey Grammar School held its end of year art exhibition, featuring work from the Level and GCSE Art, Design and Photography class.

Each year, the school opens its doors to display the work of the pupils, which never fails to impress with the ability and the way that the students embrace their chosen art forms.

Photography featured heavily this year, with many good examples of both photographic manipulation and the imaginative places on which photographs were printed onto.

Rhiannon Scanlon painstakingly pricked thousands of little holes through large paper screens which, when backlit, spelt out descriptive slogans across her photographs.

Elsewhere, GCSE Student Leah Quayle drew praise from local renown painter Michael Starkey.

Each year, the Ramsey branch of the Rotary club present a prize of £50 to their own choice of photographic student of the year.

The award was presented by Ronnie Doyle, club member of the club, to ’A’ level student Tom Foulis.

Praising his work, Ronnie said that, as a fellow artist he was highly impressed by the range of the art, the thought process, the germination, and the end product of Tom’s work.

Head of Art at Ramsey Grammar School, Gerry Quin, paid tribute to the work put in by the students.

’Pupils worked extremely hard in putting together the exhibition,’ he said.

’It is composed of work in a variety of different mediums and techniques, inspired by various artists, styles and genres.

’It was wonderful to see parents, family and friends of the community coming together to appreciate and celebrate their successes. I

’It was a great achievement to see Tom Foulis awarded Photography student of the year, for his printed images on local landscapes and townscapes,

’GCSE student Annabel Stephenson’s portraits and technical ability left many viewers in the awe of her talent.

’As Head of Arts I am very proud to see the level of academic, creative and analytical thinking that has brought much success to our pupils.’
