This band may be the closest thing to a supergroup the Manx music scene can throw together.

And this weekend, In the Blood finally released their long-awaited debut album.

Formed by some of the most familiar faces from some of the local bands, including members James Craig and singer Dave Brew, guitarists Nell Kneale and Phil Hatton, bassist Jamie Christian and drummer Andy James, In The Blood have spent an inordinate amount of time recording and perfecting the album.

And given the fact that the members also play with groups such as Pigs on the Wing, Little Bit o’ Rosie, Ed Force One and the Fletcher Christian Mutiny, the influences on the CD are varied and diverse.

’There is a real mix of genres on the album, said James, who plays guitar and shares vocals.

’It is a mix of prog, country rock, blues, funk. There’s a lot going on in there, a bit of everything.

’But that is what you get when you have so many musicians coming through and influencing where the songs are going.’

Adding to the line-up of talent is third vocalist Stephanie Tomlinson and bassist Paul Kinrade.

James said that the album, released with a gig at Noa Bakehouse last weekend, ended up taking a year and a half to record, at the Ballagroove studios with producer Gypo Buggane, a period which saw some band members leave, and others help out, styles change and ideas develop over time.

’It took that long because we put a lot of effort into it,’ he said.

’Also, some of the tracks are really in depth and quite long. One is 10 minutes long, and we spent a long time making sure we had them absolutely right.

’I’ll be biased with my favourite songs, as my favourite are the ones I wrote!

’"The Robot" is probably our best track, as it involves loads of different elements, like three -part vocal harmonies on there, with David , myself and Steph, and also three guitar harmonies.

’To come to this point now is great, and to be able to go on stage and perform these songs live is an amazing feeling. We can’t wait.’

In The Blood will be supporting Pigs on the Wing at the Hooded Ram tent during TT week.
