The cost of living is continuing to rise.
Inflation figures released today show that the annual inflation for February stood at 6.5%.
That’s up from 6.4% the month before.
Government number crunchers say that transport is the biggest factor, with air travel prices jumping 49.3% over the year.
However, they say sea travel prices have actually fallen and got 4.6% cheaper.
The category petrol and oil show a 23.3% rise. Gas has risen by 19.1% since February 2021, while the category ‘oil and other fuels’ is up 48.8%.
Electricity is the same as last year but a hike in the price is expected soon.
For food, ‘oil and fats’ is up 23.8%. Bread, however, is 4.1% cheaper.
As often seems to be the case, there are some disparities.
For example, men’s outerwear is now 11.7% more expensive, but women’s has fallen 9.1% and children’s is 26.3% cheaper.
The Retail Price Index, which uses different measures, shows inflation at 7.3%.
