Another Covid-19 related death has been confirmed in the island.

It has been confirmed in the government’s weekly surveillance report.

It takes the total since the start of the pandemic to 81.

The current seven-day average for reported positive results is 109, indicated an increase in the rate of transmission on the island.

The effective reproduction number (Rt) is 2.14, up from 1.77 last week.

This news comes as The number of active coronavirus cases in the island is continuing to rise rapidly.

The latest government figures published today showed the total number of active Covid-19 cases in the island has surpassed 1,000.

Currently there are 1,010 active cases.

This has risen from 944 Wednesday, with 207 new cases having been reported in the last 24 hours.

Nineteen of these cases were detected by PCR and 188 by lateral flow test.

Six people are now in hospital with the virus.
