Some 50 young musicians had the crowd on its feet while performing a mix of the blues, metal, pop and rock.

Students aged seven to 18 from The Rock Project Isle of Man gave an audience of about 150 people a thrilling show at the Centenary Centre in Peel.

Organiser Dave Rowles called the event ’a real highlight’ for The Rock Project as it gave students the chance to show how far they have come with their musical skills to family members and friends.

’They spent months preparing for the gig and it was well worth the effort because the performance was really fantastic,’ he said.

’By performing in a proper venue, with full lighting and sound rigs it provided a real rock concert atmosphere.

’The Rock Project Isle of Man brings together individuals of all ages and backgrounds who may not have met otherwise and allows them to develop friendships and a mutual enjoyment of music in a nurturing environment.

’It really is a great success as this showcase concert showed. I know the students just can’t wait to get back on stage.’

The students attend weekly sessions where they learn guitar, bass, singing or drums from professional gigging musicians. Adult learners also take part in The Rock Project Encore for over-18s.

Student of the Year awards were also presented on the night to those who have been practicing constantly and have improved their musical skills. Winners were Lizzy Jenkins, Jack Killey and Charlie Aaron.
