Members of the island’s choral society can be seen on Remembrance Sunday taking part in a special concert.
The event, to be broadcast on the Welsh language television channel S4C, features 47 members of the Isle of Man Choral Society who were taking part in the Mass for Peace in Berlin.
They were among almost 1,500 singers from more than 30 countries taking part earlier this month.
A spokesman said: ’The Isle of Man proudly showed the Three Legs flag and the group sang the Manx anthem. Julian Power, the director of music, singing bass, started them off at the right pitch and they had lots of tenor harmony under the sopranos.’
Other works included Sir Karl Jenkins’ recently-composed Lamentations and The Armed Man, commissioned by Guy Wilson as a mass for peace to celebrate the millennium. It premiered at the Royal Albert Hall in April 2000.
About 5,000 people were in the audience with about 2,000 on the stage.
All 47 choir members worked and sang hard over two days of rehearsals, which were used mostly to get the lighting and sound set up in the massive arena which has a capacity of about 17,000.
Choir director Julian Power said the singers had the privilege of being guided by Nicol Matt, one of Germany’s new generation conductors with an international reputation.
’Born in 1970, he is superb in direction of singing, enunciation and dynamics. He taught all the singers to think of the words with the music as mental pictures to achieve the best result.
’If you did something wrong he told you in a nice way; you then wanted to do it correctly and when this was achieved he told you it was good and several times he was almost tearful from the results produced,’ he said.
The concert, a moment of history, is to be broadcast on Sunday at 7.30pm on S4C.
S4C can be viewed on satellite television.
