I am holidaying in Florida (sorry, basking in wonderful sunshine) and was shocked to see the news that Murray Lambden had passed away suddenly at far too young an age.

I have read the wonderfully moving tribute of David Griffiths on Manx Harriers website and I cannot add anything more to such a full and appreciative account.

What I can say though is that although I have lived ‘across’ in England for my adult life, Murray’s photos and news have been over so many years a wonderful means of attaching me to the island (have a Manx flag flying from the golf cart we are using over here so still VERY proud Manxman).

His accounts on Manx Harriers website have kept me engaged for all those years.

He is a fantastic example of the old-fashioned ‘clubman’, the person always there, the one who does not give his time for his own self aggrandisement, but for the club, the sport. It is easy to ‘come in like a meteor’ and then fizzle out, Murray never did that, he was motivated to the end.

He fell on the Marine Drive, I read. Not many more spectacular places to end your days, and walking as he was seems quite fitting.

RIP, Murray, and thank you.

The unnecessary election on June 8 is for clear democratic mandate to UK government from all citizens whose lives will be changed forever by Brexit (Guardian, April 18).

There are 80,000 UK subjects denied their democratic right to vote in this election.

They are part of UK with its own government, legal system and world’s oldest continuous parliament

The Unbelieveable Truth on Radio 4 recently revealed the surprising fact – this was the first government to give women a vote in the 1880s. Emmeline Pankhurst had roots here.

USA tax treaties and International Postal Union recognise it not as a country but a territory of United Kingdom.

It wins UK Olympic medals, serves with distinction in all UK armed, health, entertainment services etc.

Its students are denied UK and EU research grants and charged alien fees.

They have no representation at Westminster save for unelected Privy Councillors.

They are already impacted by UK EU membership and Brexit.

Surely Isle of Man residents should be able to send members to Westminster alongside those of Scotland and Northern Ireland UK territories?

This unintended consequence needs resolution before any Brexit negotiations or election.

The Manx electoral register is up to date online. We are ready to vote.

Time is running out for the Ramsey Grammar School reunion, as the money to reserve a place at the reunion has to be paid by May 1 and we’re down to the last few people who we haven’t been able to contact. Is it possible for you to publish this list?

I’m sure most of them will be local or have family here so they should see it.

People should text me on my mobile 467102 so that I can send them the information.
