Isle of Man landmarks to turn green for Air Ambulance Week

Several of the island’s best-known landmarks will be illuminated in green next week as part of a national campaign celebrating the life-saving work of the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

Air Ambulance Week 2026 runs from September 7 to 13, with landmarks across the North of England and the Isle of Man lighting up in the charity’s distinctive colour to raise awareness and funds.

On the island, the Ramsey Bridge, Tower of Refuge, buildings in Douglas city centre, the promenade and City Hall will all be lit green in support of the campaign.

The initiative is being led nationally by Air Ambulances UK and this year carries the theme ‘Every Mission Starts With You’, highlighting the role supporters play in keeping air ambulance charities operating.

GNAAS has provided emergency medical care across the North of England, and more recently the Isle of Man, for more than 24 years, with its critical care teams responding to seriously ill or injured patients at the scene.

The charity said the illuminations would provide a highly visible reminder of the work carried out by its crews and the communities which support the service.

Joe Garcia MBE, chief executive of GNAAS, said: ‘Seeing so many iconic buildings and landmarks across our region turn green for Air Ambulance Week will be a fantastic and very visible show of support for our crews and the life-saving service they provide every day.’

He added: ‘Each illumination helps shine a light on the extraordinary generosity of the communities that keep our helicopters flying and our critical care teams responding to people when they need us most.’

In the island, all Tesco supermarkets will also be fundraising for GNAAS during the week, while other local businesses have been encouraged to get involved.

Mr Garcia urged people to support the campaign through fundraising, donations or simply spreading awareness of the charity’s work.
