Nominations have opened for an award recognising the work of voluntary groups across the Isle of Man.

Government House is encouraging residents to put forward organisations for the 2027 King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS).

The award is the highest honour bestowed on volunteer groups across the British Isles and is regarded as the group equivalent of an MBE.

Nominations opened on September 1 and can be submitted until December 1, with successful groups due to be announced in November 2027.

Government House says the award recognises exceptional contributions made by volunteers to their local communities and is encouraging people to consider organisations whose work has made a meaningful impact.

Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer said: ‘The strength of our communities is often reflected in the people who give their time to help others, without seeking recognition for what they do.

‘Across the Isle of Man, voluntary groups make a vital contribution in many different ways, and the King’s Award for Voluntary Service provides an opportunity to shine a light on that work and the people behind it.

‘I would encourage anyone who knows of a group whose volunteers make an exceptional contribution to their community to consider putting them forward for this special recognition.’

The nomination process gives members of the public the opportunity to highlight groups they believe deserve recognition for the contribution their volunteers make.

Those wishing to submit a nomination have until the beginning of December to do so.

Further information, including eligibility criteria and guidance on making a nomination, is available through the King’s Award for Voluntary Service website.

Groups selected to receive the 2027 award will then be revealed the following November.

The award specifically recognises voluntary groups rather than individuals.
