The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for storm force winds with coastal overtopping.

Adverse conditions are likely between 1pm and 9am tomorrow.

Southwest winds increased overnight into today, veering west around lunchtime then increasing Gale or SEVERE Gale force later in the afternoon with gusts of 60 to 65 miles per hour.

This will cause some travel disruption and as well as debris from fallen trees etc.

Slight coastal overtopping bringing waves and debris onto Shore Road, Gansey, Castletown Promenade and the northern end of Douglas Promenade around time of high tide 1:37 pm

Sunday night into Monday

The winds will ease a little for a time on Sunday evening before increasing further by the early hours of Monday morning with gusts of 70 to 75 miles per hour.

This will cause travel disruption as well as significant debris from fallen trees, loose slates etc.

Moderate coastal overtopping bringing waves and debris onto Peel Promenade, particularly from The Creg Malin to Old Swimming Pool site and Fenella Beach. High tide 2am Monday morning.

The winds will veer northwest and slowly start to ease around dawn on Monday.

Forecast conditions will be monitored and this warning will be updated if necessary.

Cloudy with spells of rain this morning, turning heavy at times, but then clearing to bright intervals & wintry showers by mid-afternoon as the strong southwest wind veers westerly and increases to reach gale or severe gale force later with gusts of 60 to 65 mph. Temperatures 11 Celsius this morning, then turning colder this afternoon & evening.

Outlook

Severe gale to storm force westerly winds overnight with gusts widely to 65-70 mph, perhaps 75 mph in exposed locations, causing tree debris and some damage in places. There’ll be a spell of rain as well, but becoming drier late in the night as the gales veer northwest.

A few showers at first tomorrow, then becoming mostly dry & bright with sunny spells and the gale force northwest wind slowly decreasing. Top temperature 9°C. Staying unsettled over the following few days with strong winds.
