Isle of Man based businessman Trevor Hemmings could become the most successful owner in Grand National history on Saturday.
Mr Hemmings is one of only four owners to have won the famous Aintree steeplechase three times.
The Andreas based racing enthusiast tasted success with Hedgehunter (2005), Ballabriggs (2011) and Many Clouds (2015)
The others to scoop three wins were Noel Le Mare (Red Rum 1973, 1974 and 1977), James Machall (1873 Disturbance, 1874 Reugny, 1876 Regal) and Sir Charles Assheton-Smith (1893 Cloister, Jerry M 1912, Covertcoat 1913).
This could be a ‘vintage’ year for Mr Hemmings.
He told Isle of Man Newspapers his three big race entries are all due to run.
They are Vintage Clouds, Lake View Lad and Warriors Tale.
Vintage Clouds is trained by Yorkshire’s Sue Smith, married to showjumping legend Harvey.
The popular grey gelding was a reserve last year and had to sit out the race.
Vintage Clouds Jumps well, stays all day and represents a trainer who has won the National before - so plenty going for this grey, who bounced back to form at Cheltenham and was third in the Scottish National last year.
Lake View Lad is trained by Nick Alexander in Scotland.
The horse ran a very fine third at Cheltenham and it could be argued he looks sure to be involved.
Warriors Tale is under the charge of leading trainer Paul Nicholls.
The race looks set to be as competitive as ever with a maximum of 40 runners. The favourite at the off could be Ireland’s Tiger Roll, trained by Gordon Elliott, who won the race last year.Manx punters love having an Isle of Man link with the big race which this year will be shown in ITV on Saturday afternoon. When Many Clouds won in 2015 the betting shop in Ramsey ran out of money because so many locals backed the horse. They were all eventually paid out.Mr Hemmings has made no secret of his love for the National. With a maximum of 40 runners it is always edge of the seat stuff for the many people who are 'once-a-year' punters
