Jenny the German shepherd is no longer missing, after members of the public managed to return the dog to its owners this week.
The ’spooked’ dog had escaped her harness in Onchan, travelling to the Point of Ayre and back in search of home, before settling at Howstrake camp in Onchan 16 days later.
Search party volunteers managed to coax Jenny into a specially designed trap before returning her to her owners.
Phil Maxwell, one of the volunteers, wrote on the Lost and Found Pets Isle Of Man Facebook page: ’Jenny had some adventure.
’She mostly used the tram track to Ramsey and on her travels she had been sighted possibly 60 or more times.
’For the last three days she stayed in the Howstrake camp, where we spent time keeping her there with food.
’Over the weekend we had seen that she was very close to the trap on a couple of occasions.
’At first light on Sunday morning, we had success. We got her! We took her back home to a very excited Mr and Mrs Garre in the cage trap.
’As soon as it was open she was out and stretched out on the sofa.’
While Jenny was missing, members of the public were asked not to approach her, as she would have been feeling frightened at the time, and were instead asked to phone in with any spottings they had of her.
The warning came after a number of people tried to catch Jenny, which had resulted in scaring the dog.
Paul added: ’When you promise the owners we’ll get their dog back, that’s just what we do.
’All thanks to the public for ringing the sightings. The help from everyone has been fantastic. If it wasn’t for the phone calls from the public with sightings, Jenny would still be out there.’
