The trainer of Grand National favourite Cloth Cap said the jockey ’did the right thing’ when he pulled up the horse.

The 11-2 favourite, owned by Isle of Man businessman Trevor Hemmings, had been ridden prominently and travelled well before being pulled up quickly three fences from home by Tom Scudamore.

Mr Hemmings had been bidding to set a record as the winning-most owner with a fourth win in the Aintree race.

His other horse in the race, Lake View Lad, fell at the first fence.

Trainer Jonjo O’Neill told the Racing Post: ’Tom said he was going along grand and then he just started gurgling a little bit and he did the right thing pulling him up.

’Before that he was having a great run round. We’ll get him checked out, but I think it will be his wind.’

Rachael Blackmore became the first female jockey to win the world’s most famous race aboard Minella Times.Mr O'Neill said on Twitter about Cloth Cap: 'Sadly not our day today but happy to report that Cloth Cap is all fine. He’s been an absolute superstar for us this season.'
