ITV series Britain’s Best Walks will visit the island this month - and fans can follow in presenter Julia Bradbury’s footsteps thanks to the ViewRanger app.

Filming for the episode took place in October and it will feature three contrasting walks showcasing the island as a destination with much to offer walking enthusiasts.

The episode follows Julia on a riverside walk through Dhoon Glen, followed by a walk down Laxey valley, where she fits in a quick climb to the top of the Laxey Wheel.

The third walk takes in the spectacular views that are afforded from the top of Snaefell on a clear day.

The episode airs on Friday, February 17, at 8pm.

Explaining the message Julie will be giving viewers, an ITV spokesman said: ’From ancient Neolithic sites and Viking strongholds to electric mountain railways and the pull of peregrines, puffins and dozens of nature trails - there’s plenty packed in this walk on an island only 10 miles wide and 40 miles long.’

Walking routes from the episode will be available to download for free from outdoor disovery app ViewRanger immediately after the episode is aired.

Described as interactive digital guides, with offline mapping, active GPS navigation, and an ’augmented reality feature’, they can be downloaded from theoutdoorguide.co.uk

ViewRanger chief executive Craig Wareham said: ’The app allows you to track your progress on detailed maps and works without phone signal, pointing out the most interesting points along the route as you walk.’

Britain’s Best Walks is screened every Friday with Julia also visiting Dorset, Yorkshire, Scotland, Cheshire and Devon.

The aim of the series isn’t just to focus on iconic destinations, but also to uncover hidden gems.
