Last month was the second wettest June on record, the latest Met Office figures show.

Some 143.8mm of rain fell at the Met Office’s base at Ronaldsway.

The figure has only been beaten by June 2012, which saw 169.8mm rainfall.

The wettest day was June 27, with 46.5mm, the third wettest June day on record behind June 22, 2012 (48.7mm), and June 17, 2011 (48.6mm).

A Met Office spokesman said: ’After such a fine spring, the payback arrived in June with a change in type to a more unsettled picture.

’It wasn’t all gloom though, as a warm spell mid-month brought temperatures into the 20s.’

The hottest day at Ronaldsway was June 19, when the temperature reached 22C.

The temperature climbed into the 20s for the Parish Walk on June 17, but at Ronaldsway it only reached 17.4C.

The average temperature was 16.6C, slightly above the long term average.

There were 174 hours of sunshine, which is about 25 hours less than the long term average. The best day was June 19 with 15.5 hours.

The average wind speed was 11.9 knots, more than 2 knots higher than the long term average for June.

There were thunderstorms on June 21.
