Kacper Kaleta, 10, from Douglas, has landed his biggest ever catch in Sulby Reservoir.
Kacper, who has been fishing since he was five, reeled the 11lb, 8½oz (5.37kg) rainbow trout in after ’fighting for 20 minutes’ as it kept pulling the line in and out.
Rainbow trout typically average around 5-8lb, and the Manx record is 16.4 lb.
It is thought only a few over 9lbs have been caught here in recent years.
His father Pavel said that Kacper, who goes to St Mary’s School, was ’very happy’ and couldn’t believe the size of the fish when he saw it in the net.
Pavel didn’t give Kacper any help with reeling the trout in, only with getting it into the landing net.
He said that on the way to the reservoir Kacper had asked how big the fish in there would be, and he had joked ’Bigger than you’.
Though not quite bigger than Kacper, the trout measured 72cm (28.3 inches) long.
He added that whenever Kacper is out of school he is always asking to be taken out fishing.
