A one-way system on the Mountain Road will be introduced this week for TT.

The police’s 2019 TT road safety campaign urges residents and visitors to once again ’Keep Calm and Slow Down’, ’Keep Calm and Ride Safe’ and ’Keep Calm and Drive Sober’.

Last year’s figures show one death on open roads during the fortnight, 19 serious injuries, 20 slight injuries and 35 vehicle damage only accidents.

The one-way system on the Mountain Road will be in place from 4.30pm on Friday, May 24, for the entire fortnight.

The first TT practice session is scheduled at 6pm the following day.

Home Affairs Minister Bill Malarkey MHK and the superintendent for operational policing, Steve Maddocks, launched the campaign at the Grandstand.

Superintendent Maddocks said: ’The safety of visitors and residents is a priority for the police force and we will be promoting the road safety campaign to both visitors and residents.

’Officers will be patrolling on the roads and on foot throughout the TT and at the many events taking place across the fortnight.

’The TT is a busy period for the constabulary and we look forward to welcoming the many thousands of visitors who will be arriving imminently and playing our part in ensuring the Isle of Man’s roads are safe.’

The road safety team will visit the Grandstand, Ramsey Sprint, Peel Day, Braddan Church and Castletown during the fortnight.
