A familiar landmark is missing from above Douglas seafront.
Two giant cranes were used to remove the Electric Railway sign at Derby Castle.
The current sign has been in place since 1993 when the Manx Electric Railway celebrated its centenary.
It is being replaced as the frame supporting it has become corroded.
Mann Crane Hire was brought in to help carry out the big lift operation.
One crane was positioned in the yard of the MER depot, working in tandem with a second located above on Hague Crescent in Onchan.
In 2016, we reported that the existing sign was due to be replaced and LED lighting installed.
An earlier sign showing ’MER for Scenery’ was damaged by a gorse fire. Earlier still, there was a sign with the words Derby Castle before that entertainment venue was demolished and replaced with Summerland.
