Woodbourne House is the original name of this landmark building in the heart of Upper Douglas where it was the once grand residence of this historic area.
The building dates back to the early 1800s when it was commissioned by the eminent Thomas Harrison who served in the House of Keys.
In the mid part of the 19th century the house was sold, and in the 1850s it was a boardiyng school for young ladies.
In 1923 the Freemasons bought the house, and the following year the foundation stone of the spectacular masonic temple was laid.
It has been home to the island’s Freemasons ever since.
Now it has been completely refurbished to provide a variety of rooms which can be hired for events.
According the John Harding, a director of Investico Management, which will manage the events, the project has been ’a labour of love’.
Mr Harding said: ’The objective was to create a spectacular events venue here that would secure the long term future for Freemasonry in the building.
’We want to invite people to come and have their functions here, whether it be a private party or a corporate event.’
