The number of people out of work has fallen slightly.

The latest labour market report, compiled by the government, shows the number of people registered unemployed was 291 for December 2021.

The figure dropped by two people from the previous month (November 2021), and has fallen by 465 persons compared with the same month last year (December 2020).

The unemployment rate for December 2021 is 0.7%, remaining the same as the previous month.

A number of 657 job vacancies were notified to the Job Centre in December 2021, which is down 351 compared to the previous month (November 2021).

At the end of the month, 460 remained. Of these, 60% (278) were full time positions and 40% (182) were part time.

It is estimated that 736 individuals are unemployed and looking for work in December 2021 compared with 738 in November 2021

The sectors most in need of labour include medical and health services with 117 job vacancies, and catering and entertainment, with 79 vacancies.

This is followed by the E-gaming industry, which has 59 vacancies, and public administration, with 47.

More men were unemployed in December, 193, compared to 98 women.
