One of Wales’s most celebrated opera groups is to visit the Isle of Man next week with their latest production.
The Swansea City Opera company will bring their version of the classic opera ’The Barber of Seville’ to the Gaiety Theatre on Friday, April 13.
With a nine-strong cast and backed by the Swansea City orchestra, the opera company are touring with a revival of their hugely successful 2011 production of Rossini’s most famous opera.
Swansea City Opera is known across the UK for its high, quality and engaging performances of comic opera and it is promised that this sparkling performance is no exception.
Their version of ’The Barber of Seville’ is sung in English and set in 18th Century Spain, complete with colourful and outrageous period costumes that complement the flair of Rossini’s famous comic opera.
It stars Swedish opera star Hakan Vramsmo, who has featured on the BBC Proms opening night, as Figaro, the titular barber, with Annabella Ellis, a graduate from the Guildhall School of Music, Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Conservatoire Scotland, as Rosina.
The director is John Beswick, who has directed at the highest level, including a variety of West End and touring operas, and also Damon Albarn’s Monkey: Journey to the West, at the London 02 arena.
