A Manx law firm has raised more than £10,000 for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.

Advocates Smith Taubitz Unsworth Ltd, of Douglas, have taken part in Write a Will Month for the specialist hospital in Merseyside since 2013.

They have raised £10,580 in total, with £5,215 coming from November 2016 alone.

The scheme works by advocates and solicitors waiving their fee when writing a basic single will, and a minimum of £100 being donated to the charity instead.

Advice can be given on leaving a legacy to charity at the same time.

Director Vicki Unsworth said: ’The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is known in The Isle of Man for ensuring comfort and care for Manx residents attending at the centre at what is a very difficult time for people, whether they are patients, or their family and friends.

’During the last Write a Will month we raised more than we had in the previous two years we have taken part. It just goes to show how many people in The Isle of Man are touched by cancer and the work done at Clatterbridge.

’This is a very worthwhile cause and we will definitely be doing it again in the future.’

Elspeth Wilson, fundraising manager for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, said: ’We are absolutely bowled over by the support of Advocates Smith Taubitz Unsworth Ltd.

’Thanks to Vicki and her team, and all our generous supporters in The Isle of Man, we will be able to make a huge difference to our patients and help transform cancer care across the region.

’By choosing to support The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, Advocates Smith Taubitz Unsworth Ltd will be helping to change lives for future generations.

’I would like to extend my gratitude for all their incredible, continued support.’

The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity is currently working to raise £15 million towards the building of a new specialist cancer hospital in Liverpool.

The 11-storey building in the city centre will provide the most up to date care and treatment for cancer patients from Merseyside, Cheshire, and the Isle of Man.

It will also provide a unique opportunity for cutting edge research into cancer treatment.

The new appeal is part of a £157 million plan to transform cancer care and will also include an £8 million investment in the current site in Wirral.
