A section of the main road through Laxey will be closed for five days to allow for trees to be cut down.

Following recent heavy rainfall, including the events of the flooding in October, the grass bank next to the Green’s Garage site has become unstable, causing one mature tree to fall and block the carriageway on November 12.

The work follows on from recent efforts to clear the river banks of debris which contributed to the flooding.

Felling will be undertaken under emergency powers available to the Department of Infrastructure, following consultation with the Department of the Environment, Food and Agriculture.

A traffic diversion will be in place on Minorca Hill and Old Laxey Hill, where parking will be suspended 8am-4.30pm to reduce congestion.

Access will be maintained for residents whose properties are accessed by the private lane within the closure zone, between Green’s Garage and Ard Reayrt.

Outside working hours, the A2 Ramsey Road will open as a single carriageway controlled by temporary traffic lights.

Glen Road in the village remains closed following the flood on October 1.

The road will be closed from 9am to 4.30pm, from Thursday November 21 until Monday 25.
