The London Manx Society has in its latest newsletter paid tribute to Irene Craine, the secretary of the Wirral Manx Society.

It notes that as one of the purposes of international Manx societies is to ‘look after the needs of island folk in their area’, and that considering the constant number of Manx residents spending long stints of time at Clatterbridge Hospital while undergoing cancer treatments, this was a big responsibility for the Wirral society.

Mrs Craine was said to be a regular visitor to these patients.

Other news highlighted in the letter includes the North American Manx Assocation’s celebration of 400 years of Manx descendents in America, which began with the arrival of Myles Standish with the Pilgrim Fathers.

A new Manx society is also being formed in Oregon.
