It was a ’fun and educational’ weekend for participants who completed the first British Canoeing Core Coach training ever delivered in the island.

Eight residents from Adventurous Experiences’ coaching team, Adventure Club, along with young adults from skills development programmes, completed the two-day training which allowed them to explore the different waters around the island.

The training can be carried out in kayaks, canoes, stand up paddleboards and other paddlesports, allowing people to choose their preferred option.

Once completing the programme, participants can choose what specific coaching environment they would like to specialise in.

Luke Crowe, aged 17, from Ramsey Grammar School, said: ’It was a fun and educational two days. I felt open to trying new things as all feedback was positive and constructive, and to top all of that it was in the beautiful Isle of Man.’

Becky Crease, a children’s physiotherapist, said: ’My first paddling experience was from Laxey with Keirron in 2011.

’I went on to join the Adventure Club, gaining my Sea Kayak Leader Award and being part of Adventurous Experiences’ exciting journey as a British Canoeing International Training Centre with an outstanding coaching delivery and safety record.

’Initially helping senior coaches on "sea kayaking experiences" open to absolute beginners, I’ve been involved in the junior paddlesport indoor kayaking at Western Swimming Pool over the last three winters.

’I really like the accessibility of the "core coach", allowing you to enter the coaching pathway at any point.’

Keirron Tastagh from Adventurous Experiences of St John’s, and Matt Giblin from Liverpool coached the participants over the two days.

Mr Giblin said: ’It was a pleasure to work with such a highly skilled and motivated group of future coaches, and was made all the better by the stunning locations in the Isle of Man coastline.

’There was an exciting buzz within the group post course and I’m sure that their coaching journey will be an exciting one.’

Owner of Adventurous Experiences Mr Tastagh said: ’It’s a terrific way to round off the winter training session and kick off celebrating 15 years of delivering "Unforgettable Experiences in the Isle of Man" this April.

’We are looking forward to supporting all participants on your coaching journey.’
