A petition to allow Daniel Richardson to stay in his self-built home has attracted more than 1,000 signatures.

Mr Richardson constructed a home in a part of Nut Glen above Ramsey, where he has now lived for more than two years.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA) began legal proceedings against Mr Richardson after he refused to leave the land, which led to a case to determine whether or not he had built his home in ’no man’s land’.

After the news of the judgement against Mr Richardson broke earlier this week, a petition was started to ’let [him] stay in his self made log cabin and maintain the land’, which is aiming to reach 1,500 signatures. At the time the Manx Independent went to press, it had already received more than 1,150.

There will be an interview with Mr Richardson in next week’s Examiner, out Tuesday, October 19.
