Douglas RNLI lifeboat was launched after concerns were raised about a person who was reported as entering the sea

The lifeboat was launched last night at 9.48pm following the report of someone going in to the sea off Douglas beach opposite the Empress Hotel.

The RNLI all-weather lifeboat Marine Engineer was launched under the command of volunteer coxswain Graeme Cushnie to assist coastguards and police who were already on the scene.

Police and coastguards searched along the beach and the lifeboat crew conducted a shoreline search from the sea as far as Derby Castle and back.

During the search new information came to light that the person that had been thought to enter the water had been found safe and well.

The lifeboat was stood down at 10.17pm to return to station to be re-housed and made ready again for service.
