Hot on the heels of the news of several big name rock and pop acts that are to visit the island later this year, Triskel Promotions have announced that they are to bring over the seminal 90s indie band The Lightning Seeds to the island.

The Liverpool-based guitar pop group will be the first band to play on this year’s Carole Nash main stage at the Bushy’s Beer tent, at the Bottleneck Carpark on Saturday, May 27.

This will also be the first night of entertainment for this year’s TT fortnight.

The Lightning Seeds were one of the most popular Indie bands from the Brit-pop era, with their catchy, infectious brand of guitar-based fee-good pop music gaining plenty of cross-over appeal between rock and chart pop fans.

They achieved massive global success with their hit singles ’Life Of Riley’ , Pure’ and ’Oh Lucky You’, which scored high in both the UK and the US charts.

They tattooed themselves on the nation’s consciousness when they teamed up with the comedian duo David Baddiel and Frank Skinner to produce the football song to end all football songs, ’Three Lions’.

The song became an instant hit and provided the soundtrack to a glorious sporting summer, when the England football team romped through to the semi-finals of the 1996 European Championship.

Singer and songwriter Ian Broudie took time out to concentrate on producing, guiding other Liverpool bands such as The Coral and The Zutons through their own music careers.

A new Lightning Seeds album is currently under production.

Support will come from the legendary Manx folk rock group the Ballaghs, with another local act to be announced later.

Other acts announced to appear this year are fellow 90s indie survivors Primal Scream and Razorlight are to perform at the Villa Marina, and KT Tunstall will appear at the Gaiety.

Tickets are £10 in advance, through www.triskelpromo.com, and £15 on the door. The concert is for over 18s only.

This year will mark the 20th time the Bushy’s tent has occupied the Bottleneck car park for the TT fortnight, following the closure of the original and much-missed Bushy’s pub.

The line up for the rest of the fortnight will be announced soon.
