Live music and entertainment will return to the streets of Laxey throughout the summer months from this weekend.

Starting on Saturdaythere will be regular music in and around the village, with two stages of music hosting solo singers, folk musicians and choirs.

Singer/songwriter Jimmy Gillespie will open the summer series, performing a set of tunes in the village square, near to the tram station, at 1pm, followed by a further performance on the promenade green, on the sea front, from 2pm.

This will be followed by a set on Sunday by Brian and Denise Kissack who will be forming just on the promenade green from 1pm.

The concerts have been organised by the Garff Commissioners, who said that they have a number of acts and singers appearing over the coming months, including local singer songwriter Matt Kelly, folk musician and composer Peddyr Cubberley, The Manic Ukelele group, Manx harpists and an appearance by the Summer Singers.

Martin Royle, clerk of Garff Commissioners, also said he was hoping to host another ’Prash Laxaa’ during the summer.

The ’Prash Laxaa’, or Laxey Brass, is a day-long meeting of many of the island’s brass bands who perform a lighthearted and competitive series of routines at various locations in the village.
