Ramsey Commissioners have deferred a decision on a proposed 20mph zone through the town’s centre until more information can be gathered.
The local authority, which proposed the change, discussed new proposals put forward by the Department of Infrastructure.
It was noted that the new designs extended the proposed speed limit to West Quay, a move which the department says would ’result in a much less visually intrusive level of street signage’.
The proposal also included a tabled pedestrian crossing point at Parliament Square, which would replace the existing crossing, and at the junction of Christian Street and Parliament Street.
However the Department of Infrastructure advised that development of the latter would result in the loss of two parking spaces.
With 90 parking spaces already under threat as part of the Quayside regeneration project the board postponed the decision until they’re provided with more information.
