Garff Commissioners will discuss plans for a new sewage treatment works in Laxey this week.

Manx Utilities submitted its plans for a replacement regional sewage treatment works on the chalet site at Breeze Hill in the seaside village.

The authority is looking to build a treatment facility, storm storage tank, pumping station, screening and a new bridge for access to the site.

The commissioners will discuss this tonight at 7pm.

The plans have proved controversial as a number of residents have opposed them.

Signs against the plans were spotted on the bridge between Minorca Hill and Old Laxey Hill roads, this weekend. They read: ’Pump not dump’, ’Odour!’ and ’Viewing platform for sewer plant’.

Concerns were previously raised about tankers passing near to the primary school and the potential road damage.
