The London Manx Society has held its annual lunch in the UK capital.

Held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Holborn, west London, the society lunch saw the confirmation of a new president.

Following their meal, guests were treated to a talk by Dr John Callow, a historian who has previously delivered the address at the Illiam Dhone memorial at Hango Hill.

Dr Callow spoke of the life of the Manx people under the 7th Earl of Derby, "Yn Stanlagh Mooar," especially during the English Civil War. At that time, the Manx people were ’subject to near absolute rule, conscription into the army and, through neglect of the land, near starvation’.

Outgoing president Bryan Corrin, who has held the post for the past three years, handed over the office to Alastair Kneale and Mr Corrin picked up the top prize in the raffle, a return trip to the island with a car for two, donated by the Steam Packet.

The society next meets for its summer cooish on July 1.

Details can be found at www.londonmanxsociety.co.uk and everyone with a Manx connection will be welcome.

Those attending the annual lunch were Elaine Abraham, Douglas and Margarita Barr-Hamilton, Robin and Voirrey Carr, Stewart Christian, Bryan and Sheila Corrin, Mike and Pam Fiddik, Colin and Edna Flint, Maron Honeyborne, Margaret Hunt, Alastair Kneale, Wendy Kneen, Peter and Sally Miller, Margaret Robertson, Sam Weller, Jim and Sue Wood with its guest of honour John Callow.
