The five strong team that has run the Crosby Luncheon Club at the Millennium Hall for many years have celebrated their retirement.

The club is part of Marown Community Care which provides a three course meal wih ta or coffee for £5 once each month.

Marown Parish Community Care chairman David North said: ’Some of the ladies have been there from the start and, apart from one, are older than most of those who sit down to lunch. Some of them are looking forward to sitting down to enjoy the meal each month.

’During the year up to 20 single people living on their own, each month on the first Wednesday, enjoy some wonderful home cooking.’

He said some of the retiring team had been there from the club’s start 31 years ago.

’The ladies will be cooking and serving their last lunch before handing over to a new group of volunteers. The five new helpers, organised by Chris Wordsworth, will handle the cooking and serving of the lunches from September 6.’

The five retirees were joined by a number of other helpers who have either retired or are about to do so and each was presented with a gift to mark their support over the years.
