It has to be the best Christmas attraction for kids in the island. After all, where else can you go and meet Santa in his grotto, with two real donkeys in attendance?
And then there are all the lights, hundreds of them, lighting up all the stables and the pathways right down to the donkey’s paddock. Every spare space including stables that don’t contain live occupants, is filled with animal displays and yet more lights.
There are games to play: hook a duck, with the grand prize of a tablet not yet won; pop balloons with a well-aimed dart or throw gold rings and try to hook them onto Rudolf’s antlers.
There is also a quieter space where children can write their letter to Santa and post it in the Christmas ’post box’. And don’t forget to stop for a singsong at the Christmas karaoke display.
Sadly after all the hard work to put on this display, the weather hasn’t been kind but numbers have held up pretty well.
If you haven’t seen them yet it’s not too to visit the Christmas lights at the home: they will be open tonight (Thursday), with Rebecca Forrest singing, and tomorrow from 4pm - 8pm. The cafe will be serving home-made soup, sausage baps and toasties to warm everyone up.
The attraction is also open on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm, so wrap up warm, pop on your wellies and go along for a spot of festive fun.
â?¢ After Sunday the old horses’ home will be closed until it re-opens for the summer season in May.
