A major project involving renovating properties in Station Park, Colby, is scheduled to begin soon.

The Department of Infrastructure’s housing division has submitted plans for work to 40 out of 68 properties in Station Park, and involves new roofs, removing chimney stacks, re-rendering, new or repaired fences and redecoration.

At the moment, the estate is a hotchpotch of repairs to roofs after a scheme in 2010 intended to re-roof several properties was derailed by lack of finance.

It meant that some properties in Station Park had the front elevation only and others had the first four rows of tiles replaced.

In addition to this, the Department of Infrastructure explained older properties, built in the 1950s, were re-roofed last year but this involved different materials and construction methods and were therefore treated as a separate project.

Some essential asbestos removal/roof repairs were carried out in the estate around 10 years ago, but this will not be revisited.

The Examiner asked the DoI what the cost of the project was, but the DoI said it could not provide a figure as a contract for the works is yet to be awarded.

Tenders will be requested for the work which is scheduled to start after TT week and - depending on how much defective render is identified - take around 16 weeks to complete.

Under the proposal (18/00282/B), re-roofing works would be completed on house numbers 12A to 52 and the chimney stacks would be removed at house numbers 20 to 32 and 42 to 45.
