A man has appeared in court via video link from the prison, accused of hiding 11 wraps of cannabis in between his buttocks.

Anthony John Richard Lyons entered a ‘no plea’ response to the charge of possessing the class B drug with intent to supply.

The case will be committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery on July 25.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that it is alleged that 35-year-old Mr Lyons was at the prison on December 21 when officers subjected him to a search.

Mr Swain said that it is alleged that 11 cannabis wraps, containing 28.4 grams of the drug, and valued by police at £2,840, were found in the cheeks of his bottom.

The prosecutor submitted that the case was not suitable to remain in summary court.

Advocate David Reynolds, representing Mr Lyons, submitted that the case was suitable to remain in summary court.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes declined summary court jurisdiction.

No bail application was made and the case will be due for mention on June 6.
