Andy Baker, who is rowing the Atlantic for charity, is now in the final quarter of the journey, despite suffering damages to his boat.
Andy, who works as an advocate in Douglas, began the 4,000 nautical mile journey in December last year, having set off from Lagos, Portugal with the aim of raising money for charities which work to promote good mental health such as Reach Isle of Man.
His custom rowing boat Aurelia is currently less than 1,000 nautical miles away from his target of making landfall in the Bahamas.
Andy said that he looks forward to reading people’s messages to him when he ’gets to dry land in a few weeks’, and thanked everybody who had donated so far.
A piece of equipment which serves to keep the boat on course had broken, though he said that he had been expecting issues like this.
The mechanical mishaps were not the only recent blip on the journey however, with Andy recently posting on his live blog that his Spotify music app account had expired.
This left him with a ’limited selection’ of music left, namely Pink Floyd, Muse, and the Beach Boys’ greatest hits.
Just over two weeks ago at the half-way mark, Andy posted that both he and the boat were in good shape despite having ’tragically run out of chocolate’.
The other charities Andy is raising money for include Whistleblowers UK and Manx Wildlife Trust, chosen because of the positive effects of nature on mental health.
So far, he has raised £4,395 in total and he has a justgiving page for more donations.
