Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT organisers have said Tuesday evening’s qualifying session will go ahead as planned despite the threat of rain.

Issuing the update this afternoon, a spokesperson for the event said: ‘Tonight’s qualifying sessions remain as scheduled, with roads due to close at 6pm.

‘Current conditions around the Mountain Course and the latest weather forecast indicate conditions will be suitable for this evening’s qualifying sessions to commence. However, there is a chance of disruption later in the evening from incoming showers.’

The Manx Grand Prix’s Senior and Supersport bikes are due to be out first at 6.30pm followed by the Junior and Sportbike machinery at 7.15pm.

Classic TT entrants will then get their first sight at the Mountain Course this week with a one-lap session at 7.50pm.

Monday evening’s qualifying session was cancelled because of rain, while Sunday afternoon’s opening session was curtailed due to the weather and red flag incident, which resulted in Italian rider Salvatore Sallutro being air-lifted to hospital after coming off his machine at Greeba Bridge.

As a result of the track time lost over the first few days of the meeting, Wednesday afternoon’s contingency qualifying session will now be utilised.

Roads will close at 12.30pm with the various classes in both the Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT taking to the course.

Roads will re-open at 5pm, before closing again at 6pm for the originally planned evening qualifying session.

The forecast for Wednesday, however, does feature showers with the Met Office at Ronaldsway’s latest updated stating it will be mostly dry in the morning with sunny intervals, but scattered showers will develop later in the afternoon and into the evening.
