This week we look at two bands and their recent releases on the Manx band music scene.
First up we have the debut release from Glory Years.
They are a band that have been relatively quiet on the local scene, although they did score themselves an early gig as support to Busted at the Villa Marina back in June.
Debut single ’Where Did I Go Wrong’ has the hooks, the modern production and the big singalong chorus.
From what I’ve heard so far, it’s certainly very radio friendly and it would be great to see this sitting on the radio station playlists.
Featuring Elliot Kinrade on vocals, Nick Kinrade on guitars, Mike Somers on bass and Darren Shields on drums, further information can be found via Facebook.com/gloryyearsband
Next up we have Post War Stories.
Often described as ’trip hop and ambient rock’, the trio of singer and guitarist Paul Salisbury, bassist Martyn Cain and Ben O’Hare on drums and samples, have been playing together since the early noughties.
Their newest release, ’Shame’, takes a sidestep into and area that’s slightly more electronic in feel.
It still has the dark and brooding atmosphere that runs deeply through the Post War back catalogue and is a great little dip into the electronic waters.
The song can be heard on the Post War Stories bandcamp page.
Over their career the band has released offerings in the shape of ’NinedeadAirshow’ in 2013, with ’The Cold Wars’, and ’Live at Kenna’ EP’s following in 2014. ’Visions: Live 2’ released in 2015.
2015 also saw the release of ’This Terrible Ordeal : Soundtracking The Lives Of Manx Residents In WW1’ in collaboration with The Isle of Man Arts Council and Manx National Heritage and more recently, in 2018, their track ’Scriptures’ was featured in Janet Lees’ film, ’The Worst Thing By Far’.
Finally this week and we look at Ian Thompson. Certainly, he is one of the most prolific performers on the island and, for the most part, a covers performer where the live gigs are concerned.
His latest single, ’Inconveniently In Love’ was released at the end of August.
Showing Ian’s trademark standard of uplifting songwriting, it’s dripped in his Paul McCartney and Glen Tilbrook influences .
Information on where the track can be streamed is available via the Ian Thompson Music Facebook page.
You can also catch Ian at the Creek, in Peel, tonight night (Friday) from 9pm.
Elsewhere tomorrow night, pop-punk covers group Barefoot Revolution are rocking the south down at Compton Vaults, and the AC/DC covers band Little Bit O’Rosie are loud and proud at the Mitre in Ramsey on Saturday night, from 9pm onwards.
