It’s a well known fact that the island is home to a huge number of talented musicians, staggeringly so in fact, and in that group of people we can include Tinesha Kinley.

A name that you may not be familiar with. Yet.

The guitarist and vocalist, who also happens to be a member of Manx indie things, The Bobblehead, has taken a leap and branched out into a solo side-project, and has released her debut single, entitled ’Eye Candy’.

With a tinge of acoustic guitar and a smattering of electronica and pop, this is well worth checking out.

’Eye Candy’ is available now to stream via Spotify and Apple Music, and there’s also a video available for the single.

Speaking of our younger singer/songwriters, Mae Challis has an upcoming date this Saturday.

Born in Sittingbourne, Kent, Mae moved to the island at the age of seven and by the age of just 15 had won the ’Next Big Thing’ competition that took place at the Gaiety Theatre back in 2014.

As a singer and guitarist she lists her influences from Queen, Oasis, KT Tunstall and Joni Mitchell to more contemporary performers like Hurts, Coldplay, Train, James Morrison, Skrillex, Bruno Mars and Emeli Sande.

Official release wise, we’ve had Mae’s first single ’Crazy’, a cover of the Gnarls Barkley track in 2016, followed by her album ’Live at The Bath and Bottle’ soon after. She has a current release and single in the shape of ’Headphones’.

Taking a nice, modern and dancer slant than her previous acoustic output, the track is now available on iTunes and all streaming sites including Apple Music, Spotify and Deezer.

The video for the single can be see on Youtube.

To see what Mae, her music and her band is all about, head to Jaks this Saturday night from 10pm.

Finally this week, a quick shout out for a relatively new band on the Manx gigging circuit.

The Manxical Mystery Tour is a new Beatles tribute that made its live debut back in April.

Setlist wise, the band dip well into the Beatles back catalogue with the likes of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Lovely Rita, Get Back, Something, Free As A Bird, In My Life and Drive My Car all getting an airing alongside the more standard Beatles pieces.

The band is due to head out for its next live date on Friday July 19 at the Basement Bar in Douglas.

Tickets are now on sale for £10 via Tickettailor.

That’s all for this week, and be sure to check out local live music this weekend.
