Manx Utilities is calling for suggestions of sites for sewage pumping and treatment facilities in the areas of Lonan, Laxey and Onchan.

A location suitable for pumping stations [of about 50x50m area] is being sought for sites between Laxey and Onchan.

In addition to this, a site of is been sought for a treatment works for the handling of the sewage from Laxey and Baldrine.

Following the establishment in November of the Garff Regional Sewerage Treatment Consultative Group, which involves local MHKs Martyn Perkins and Daphne Caine, two Garff commissioners and representatives from local interest group Best for Laxey Bay, MU said that the call for sites ’has been refined and explains the options being considered in more detail’.

In December, MU withdrew its application for a sewage works at Glenfaba in Patrick, south of Peel, after an independent inspector recommended its refusal.

In January last year, its application submitted for a sewage works at Breeze Hill in Laxey was rejected by planners amidst opposition from residents.

Infrastructure Minister and MU chairman Tim Baker said: ’Having assessed the feedback from our previous applications in Peel and Garff, we remain committed to moving forward in providing solutions that will bring an end to the disposal of raw sewage in both catchments.

’The "call for sites" process for Garff will ensure that we have explored all possible site options available, in order to provide the best possible solution for the community.’
