An art exhibition based on cosmic and space scenes has opened in Laxey.
Painter and writer Warwick Landon has opened his first exhibition of artwork at Mother T’s community art space, New Road, Laxey.
This is Warwick’s first solo display and includes several paintings created over many years, featuring spellbinding and metaphysical scenes of the stars and the cosmos, inspired by cultural and astrological themes and meditation.
’Most of the paintings are mostly cosmic scenes and scapes,’ said Warwick.
’I seem to have a real affinity with stars and the cosmos can sometimes feel a little more like home than here sometimes.’
A keen practitioner of meditation, Warwick channelled a lot of his thoughts and creations on his experiences of, as he puts it, ’looking inward’, and that his paintings are a way of symbolising aspects of his life.
’My whole life is now based around meditation and going inward,’ he said.
’Everything here is symbolic or metaphorical of something within my life, either the inner world or the outer world.
’The painting, called "Red Cosmic Dragon" is my Mayan "name", which represents my date of birth, and it comes what can be almost described as Mayan astrology.’
Warwick also released a short book, entitled ’Leaf’, at the same time as the exhibition.
’Although not actually connected with the paintings, there is a connection that my book is part of my life.
’It is a story about a leaf hanging onto a tree and it is a really poetic story about the journey of the leaf letting go and dying off into the earth, but the spirit of the leaf recognising that it is not the end, but it keeps on transforming into different things,’ he said.
’I actually wrote the book around 12 years ago and, like my paintings, I have never done anything with.
’I have had a few big life changes recently and I have decided to become more creative with my time. I am beginning to write more, including another story and more poetry.
’It all seems to be happening to me now and I am really inspired to do the things which I love to have in my life.’
